August 3 · Issue #3 · View online
The quarterly update from OGC concerning the latest happenings from the organization and its members.

Hello and welcome to the 3rd issue of OGC Update for 2018.
Next month will see our 108th Technical Committee meeting, to be held in Stuttgart, Germany. Have you registered to attend, yet? If not head to ogcmeet.org for all the details.

A message from OGC President and CEO, Mark Reichardt
After almost 18 years with OGC, 14 years as President, I plan to transition to part-time work with OGC early next year. In my new capacity, I will focus on strategic opportunity development in the areas of membership value and growth, and the advancement of key programs and initiatives in support of OGC’s technology and marketplace priorities.
I have thoroughly enjoyed my time as OGC’s President and CEO, and I am honored to have been able to serve the geospatial and standards communities in this capacity. This transition is something that I have carefully considered for some time, and I believe that it is time for new leadership to help take OGC to the next step in its evolution.

Current OGC initiatives
Vector Tiles Pilot: The Open Geospatial Consortium (OGC) has released a Call for Participation to solicit proposals for the OGC Vector Tiles Pilot Initiative. More information on the Pilot, including the Call for Participation, is available on the OGC Vector Tiles Pilot Initiative Webpage. Responses are due by August 6, 2018. Please contact Dr. Terry Idol with any questions.
Disasters Interoperability Concept Development Study (Disasters CDS): The Disasters CDS had two successful workshops during the last two months. The latest was held July 24 and 25 at NOAA in Silver Spring, MD. Over 150 people from Federal, State and Local governments as well as private organizations attended. The next stage of the Study is the actual planning of the first Pilot. Please contact Dr. Terry Idol if you’d like to provide input to the first Disasters Pilot.
Geospatial to the Edge Plugfest: More than ten participants have gathered together in two virtual sprints to advance interoperability for GeoPackage, WMS and WFS Profiles. Public wiki here.
Smart Cities Interoperability Reference Architecture (SCIRA): Assess the state of emerging standards for the Smart Cities in the area of public safety and the development of an open architecture for interoperable Internet of Things (IoT) sensors. Research, design, and test a Smart Cities Interoperability Reference Architecture (SCIRA) that integrates commercial proprietary IoT sensors for public safety applications at the community level.
Testbed 14 (T14): T14 has now reached an important milestone: the finalization of the draft design for all implementation work! From now on, the focus will be on component implementations for all 20 tasks.
Testbed 15 (T15): now entering the phase of requirements development. In this phase, Testbed-15 chief architect Ingo Simonis starts developing requirements together with sponsors to identify synergies and collaboration potential. This is one of the most important phases of the testbed preparation, as it aligns sponsor requirements with technology trends and the OGC baseline.
Marine Spatial Data Infrastructure Concept Development Study (Marine SDI CDS): beginning in August. This initiative will be looking at different marine spatial data infrastructures. Keep a look out for a workshop to discuss marine spatial data in October!
Maritime Limits and Boundaries Pilot: Call for Participation in pilot to advance implementation of the S-121 standard will be published on August 10.
DataBio: OGC, a partner in the Horizon2020 project DataBio, which focuses on Big Data in the bioeconomy, organized two highly successful sessions at IGARSS2018 (see blog post, above).
